Visiting the East Side gallery Berlin

East Side gallery Berlijn

The East Side Gallery in Berlin is a piece of the German wall which was painted over by artists after it fell. It’s the longest still preserved part of the Berlin wall, stretching for about 1,3 kilometers.

The East Side Gallery in Berlin is the longest public piece of art in the world.

118 artists had been invited in the spring of 1990, a few months after the Berlin Wall fell. These artists expressed their vision on freedom in the form of graffiti on the wall. Visiting it is worthwhile, but many pieces of arts have been smeared and some tourists wrote on the wall themselves. It’s a real shame and also caused fences to be put up, making sure there is no more smearing.

Location: between Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaumbrücke, parallel tot he Spree, is the East Side Gallery.
