Krka Park and the waterfalls in Croatia
Krka Park is one of the most famous and most beautiful attractions in Croatia. This park is famous for its amazing waterfalls. The biggest and most famous waterfall is Skradinski Buk. This is the eye-catcher of the park and can not be missed. Here you can swim in the water at the falls.
This is unlike many other parks in Croatia and this makes Krka park extra special.
Throughout the park there is a beautifully designed hiking trail. On some parts you walk on wooden floors over the water. There are several routes to follow and the longest hike takes about two hours. This includes the time taken for taking pictures. If you have the time then this hike is definitely recommended.
Along the way you will also encounter a 14th-century medieval fortress. You can also visit the Krka Monastery via a boat trip. There is also a museum made of old mills. These mills were once built by Emperor Franc Josef II. He and his wife had such a beautiful place to enjoy the falls from above. There are also a number of small shops in the park that sell, food, drinks and souvenirs.
How to get to Krka park and the waterfalls in Croatia?
Krka Park is accessible in various ways. It is located in the middle/south of Croatia. The most logical places from where you can visit this park are Sibenik and Split. But from Zadar in the north you can come by boat here. You can book organized day trips and even private tours are affordable. I myself drove to Skradin by car and took the boat to the park. This way you arrive in the park through a very nice route and see the waterfall immediately.
My experience of Krka park and the waterfalls in Croatia
We went to this park in the afternoon. From the airport of Split we drove to Skradin with a rental car. This is about an hour’s drive. In Skradin you can take a boat to the park every hour. After a short half hour sailing through a beautiful area, you reach the park and from the boat you can see the waterfall already. What a nice entrance this is! Walk a little bit and see the waterfall from close by. The water flows all around you. What a powerful natural phenomenon! Here everyone gets a little quiet. The magic of Krka is also that there are more than 860 species of flora and rare fauna here. After our two-hour walk, we will be back to the boat that brings us to Skradin.
• Come early in the morning or later on in the day and get out of the crowd.
• The best way to get here is by boat from Skradin.
• Walk the long walk through the entire park.
Hotel tip Dubrovnik
There are many places to stay in Dubrovnik. All different in price range and look and feel! I loved my stay at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. The facilities are great and it’s a stunning venue and well designed. Breakfast is delicious with a wide variety! The indoor and outside pool are good. Restaurants and bars are nice and the access to Dubrovnik Old town is really easy by bus.
