Which are the best temples to visit at Angkor Wat?
Angkor or Angkor Wat?
The names are often mixed up. “Angkor” is the name of the whole complex, with over a hundred temples. “Angkor Wat” is the best-known temple and is also depicted on Cambodia’s flag.
How to best visit the temple complex?
A great way to explore the temples is to rent a bike and discover them by yourself. It’s very easy to do and the routes are self-explanatory. Renting a tuk tuk and have yourself been driven around is another great way to explore Angkor. You can also book an organized day tour and visit the temples with a group and a guide. The temples are all very easy to reach from Siem Reap. The temple furthest away is at about 25 kilometers. You do need to buy an entrance ticket: 20 dollars for a day or 40 dollars for three days. Buy the three day ticket, as one day is definitely not enough! Only the Angkor Wat Temple has a obligatory dress code. You need to cover your shoulders and bare legs aren’t allowed!
Tip: Experience the sunset! You need to be present at 06:00 AM, but getting up will definitely reward itself. The sun rises majestically from behind the temple. Even in cloudy weather it’s an experience you wouldn’t want to miss.
