Dubrovnik is an ancient city in Croatia and is breathtakingly beautiful. The city is surrounded by ancient city walls and is beautifully located on the waterfront. Dubrovnik has become one of the world’s most luxurious tourist destinations in recent years. But there are also enough budget options to stay and things to do. The amazing weather, the clear blue sea and the historical heritage make Dubrovnik a very nice destination. There are so many great things to do in Dubrovnik!
What are the 6 nicest things to do in Dubrovnik?
1. Walk over the city walls
Ask various people what is fun to do in Dubrovnik and everyone will immediately say walking over the city walls. Right so that this is so popular! A walk over the city walls takes about an hour and is almost 2 km. You will then walk around the entire city. The view is really beautiful everywhere and shows the city from all angles and gives you a perfect picture of how impressive the old city is. Because it can be quite busy it is advisable to do this early in the morning or at the end of the afternoon. The entrance fee for the city walls is 120 kn.
2. Get lost in the old town
Explore the Old Town with the numerous small streets and secret places and squares. Walk through Dubrovnik and be amazed at everything you see. Sit down in a nice cafe and enjoy the view and the people around you.
3. The Srđ-hill
From the city walls the view is already beautiful, but from the Srđ hill it’s all breathtaking. Via the short cable car ride you can reach the top of the Srđ hill. A ticket for a return costs 100 kn. From this hill you look down to the old town and it is undoubtedly the most beautiful view over Dubrovnik. Since I had a rental car, I drove up to the cable car and this is great too.
4. Walk over the Stradun
One of the nicest free things to do in Dubrovnik is to walk across the Placa (also known as Stradun). This is the main road in the old city that goes from one gate to the other gate. This street is fun and full of attractions, restaurants, shops and ice cream parlors.
5. Visit the Franciscan Monastery
The Franciscan is a 14th century monastery. There is also a small and interesting museum and they have kept bullet holes in the walls from the war. There is also a beautiful church and it is worth visiting. The price for the monastery is 30 kn.
6. Visit a Buza bar
There are two Buza Bars in Dubrovnik. These bars are located on the edge of the cliffs on the side of the old city wall. They are accessible through the city wall and you can not miss them. My preference is Buza Bar II, because there is more shadow there.
These are my favorite things to do in Dubrovnik! What are your favorite things to do in Dubrovnik?
There are many places to stay in Dubrovnik. All different in price range and look and feel! I loved my stay at Hotel Dubrovnik Palace. The facilities are great and it’s a stunning venue and well designed. Breakfast is delicious with a wide variety! The indoor and outside pool are good. Restaurants and bars are nice and the access to Dubrovnik Old town is really easy by bus.
