1. Fishermen’s Bastion
This is the most beautiful place in Budapest and a visit to Budapest is not complete without a visit to the Fishermen’s Bastion. The seven towers symbolize the seven chiefs of ancient Hungary. You can also visit the panoramic terrace for a few euros and have one of the most beautiful views of the city. Visiting this is for sure one of the best things to do in Budapest!
2. Gellért mountain
The best view of the city is when you visit Gellértberg. In about half an hour you are on top of the Gellértberg. The walk is good and is nice. Halfway there is the statue of Liberty of Budapest. This statue can already be seen from afar and makes an important part of the cityscape.
3. Budapest Parliament
The monumental building of the Parliament is one of Budapest’s biggest attractions. It was built between 1885 and 1904 and is the symbol of the Hungarian capital. The building is large (almost 18000 m²) and fairytale-like by the architecture which is so detailed. A visit to parliament is only possible with a tour. These take place daily at 10:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00. Tickets can be bought at the visitor center or online. Do not forget to visit the parliament in the evening. Then it is amazingly beautifully lit.
4. City park of Boedapest
Behind the monument of the Heroes Square is Budapest’s largest park. It is definitely worth visiting. There is enough to do in the park. The city park lake makes the park a romantic place. With nice weather you can rent a boat here. During winter, it acts as an ice rink.
5. Thermal bath of Széchényi
The thermal bath of Széchényi is one of Europe’s largest thermal baths. It was built between 1909 and 1913 in a beautiful neo-baroque style. This bath consists of an indoor and an outdoor pool with various baths. The water is 74 degrees Celsius and comes from sources in the city park. The thermal water has a healing effect for various dermatological and nerve problems.
6. Visit a ruin pub

7. Heroes’ Square Boedapest
The Heroes’ Square is one of Budapest’s most visited sights. It is opposite the city park, at the end of Andrássy Avenue. This is one of Budapest’s main streets. There is a statue of Archangel Gabriel in the middle of the Heroes’ Square. He is the symbol of Roman Catholic religion. The square and monument commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the arrival of the Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin.
8. Margaret Island
Margaret Island is a large island between two bridges: Margit Híd and Árpád-Híd. It is a recreation area for the people of Budapest. The sights on the island include the water tower, the fountain of music, the mini zoo and the Japanese garden. Of which especially the Japanese garden is a very nice place to visit. Walking or cycling on this island is great fun and the area is a true haven of peace.
9. St. Stephen Basilica
This is the largest catholic church in the city and here is the most important relic of Hungarian Catholicism. You can also take the elevator up and have a great view of the city.
10. Castle District
This part of the city is the perfect place to walk around. Just walk without looking at the map. Through the narrow streets, this district reflects Budapest in the Middle Ages.
