I love Bangkok in Thailand and I have been there several times. It is my favorite city in Asia and a city where you will not be bothered for a second by the abundance of sights and activities. Bangkok is the point of departure for Thailand, because many aircrafts arrive in the Thai capital. It’s is a bustling city where you can see beautiful temples, do excellent shopping, eat well and have the time of your life very easily. Bangkok stimulates all your senses and it’s a city which you always love a little more. What are the best things to do in Bangkok?
The 10 best things to do in Bangkok.
1. Visit the temples of Bangkok
Bangkok is a city with hundreds of spectacular Buddhist temples, and these Buddhist temples form one of the aspects that make Bangkok an interesting city. Visiting the tempels is in top of my list with the best things to do in Bangkok! There is a lot of choice and to visit all temples is a never ending task. The 5 most beautiful temples are Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Saket, Wat Benchamabophit and Wat Phra Kaeo.
2. Cycle through Bangkok
The best way to experience Bangkok is with an organized bike ride. Seriously, visiting this city is not complete without a bike ride. You get in touch with the real Bangkok and come to places where no tourists come and this is great to see. Every time I’m in Bangkok, I’m going to make a bike ride full of enthusiasm!
3. Khao San Road
Khao San Road is a busy and chaotic street in the most touristy part of the city. This street is full of restaurants, shops, hotels, stalls, massage salons and a lot of backpackers. Here you have to go and have walked through this at least once. It is totally not authentic Thai, but you will be amazed then I’m going to be excited again for the cycling!
4. Shopping Malls
There are several shopping malls and one mall is even bigger and more beautiful than the other. The MBK Center and the Siam Center I recommend the most. Actually, everything is available here for a good price: shoes, clothes, phones, electronics, souvenirs, bags, watches etc. Some malls sell only the real brands and other malls are packed with counterfeit products.
5. Take a river taxi
Bangkok is the Venice of the East and taking a ride with a river taxi will make you realize this. From the water you have a great view of the city and these river taxis are very cheap. The river taxi is a great and reasonably fast way to go from one point to another and enjoy a cooling breeze on the way. The Wat Pho, Wat Phrae Kew and Wat Arun temples lie on the riverside.
6. The weekend market of Chatuchak
There are more than 15.000 stalls on this weekend market and you can endlessly shop in the world’s largest market. This is the best place to buy souvenirs. The atmosphere and the scents and colors are unique here and this market must be on your bucket list.
7. Eat on the street
In Bangkok you can eat the best dishes anywhere on the street. It costs almost nothing and the food is great and deliciously prepared. Especially the Thai dishes are very tasty and fast. My favorite is Mango Sticky Rice with Mango and Coconut Sauce.
8. Take a massage
You can get massages on every street in Bangkok. All types of massages are possible and especially the foot massages are very popular and cheap. For about five euros you have a wonderful massage of an hour.
9. Visit a skybar
There are various skybars in the city and they are all fun to spend a night. The Vertigo & Moonbar at the top of the Banyan Tree hotel and the Sky Bar Lebua Towers are recommended because of the great view combined with a stylish bar. Please note that the price of a drink in a sky bar are a lot higher than elsewhere in the city. Tip: Stick to the smart-casual dress code, so dress in your most upscale outfit.
10. Chinatown
The Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in the world. Wake up in China and admire the Chinese temples, walk through the maze of streets, shop in the various shops and eat in one of the many food stalls on the street. Everyone gets lost in this Chinatown, but fortunately all the bicycle taxi’s are still there to bring you back to your hotel.

Check here my travel route for the north of Thailand 2 weeksHotel Bangkok
I’m always staying in the same hotel: Rambuttri Village Plaza. The location is fantastic: close to Khao San Road and it is quiet. The swimmingpool is great and the breakfast has a big choice and is tasty. Price about €22,- for a double room include breakfast.
